Welcoming Speech of The Director,

Social Service Special Capital Region of Jakarta

We warmly welcome the plan of the Executive Board of the Pa van der Steur Foundation to publish a book entitled 100 TAHUN PEKERJAAN PA VAN DER STEUR di Indonesia (100 YEARS OF PA VAN DER STEUR'S WORK in Indonesia).

Over the last century, the Foundation has done sterling work in caring for destitute children who are in need of love, attention and education.

Pa van der Steur's dedication in caring for and supporting the needy section of the Jakarta community has been a shining example to those who have continued his work over the last hundred years. The Executive Board of the Foundation, working as a family, has had great success in its work, particularly that part of it concerning children.

CONGRATULATIONS

Welcoming Speech of The Director, Regional Office,

Department of Social Affairs Special Capital Region of Jakarta

First of all, let us give praise and thanks to God for the publication of the book. Furthermore I greatly commend the efforts of the Editing Commission in publishing the book. I regard this a good step because in the endeavor to surmount social problems that are growing ever more complex we greatly need new Pa van der Steurs.

After reading the book carefully, we will understand the story of Pa van der Steur in his struggle to care for/help his fellow human beings, especially neglected children, with great dedication, and in a selfless way. Pa van der Steur's job in caring for neglected children in his day constituted a part of the Social Welfare activities that are still continuing today.

Pa van der Steur was a social volunteer whose life needs to be commemorated and whose values, dedication and sacrifices, need to be passed on to those involved in Social Welfare.

In conclusion, I should like to convey my congratulations on the publication of the book in the hope that it will become a valuable model for social work volunteers in carrying out their activities.

Welcoming Speech of The Executive Council BKKKS

Special Region of Jakarta

We cordially welcome the publication of the book entitled "100 Tahun Pekerjaan Pa van der Steur" (100 Years of Pa van der Steur's Work).

Pa van der Steur's noble task in the field of social affairs which he started in 1892 at Magelang, is going on, even now, and is being continued and developed by the present generation.

Whereas Pa van der Steur's work originally involved primarily neglected children, at present it has grown into care for the aged (note : the Home for the Aged is not continued nowadays) and into education in general.

It is our hope that in the future the Pa van der Steur Foundation will always take as an example the high ideals of Pa van der Steur, and anticipate the handling of social problems in line with the needs of the society, in quality as well as in quantity.

Good luck in your work!

Executive Council BKKKS Special Region of Jakarta

A Word of Welcome from

The Chairman of The Pa van der Steur Foundation

In connection with the commemoration of one hundred years of Pa van der Steur's work on September 10, 1992, the Executive Board of the Pa van der Steur Foundation would like to give thanks to God for His protection and guidance in the establishing and work of the Pa van der Steur Foundation.

One hundred years is not a short time; in order to commemorate this historic event and to prevent it from vanishing from our memory, the committee to commemorate 100 Years of Pa van der Steur's Work has decided to publish a book entitled Seratus Tahun Pekerjaan Pa van der Steur (One Hundred Years of Pa van der Steur's Work). We welcome this event with pleasure.

The book hs been arranged in such a way that the reader may learn the story of Pa van der Steur and his work from 1892 in Magelang until his death among his pupils in 1945. It is stressed in the book that Pa van der Steur did the noble work merely because of his faith in God and his love of his fellow human beings. Events since his death are also described in this memoir.

Those who knew Pa van der Steur during his life, especially his pupils, will never forget him. His name will always be highly respected and revered.

With the publication of the book, the Executive Board hopes that van der Steur's work will become even better known by the public, so that his aspirations and legacy, expressed in the words : "Not my name, but my work should be perpetuated" will be implemented properly by all of us.
